The offerings go down first. Small palm-leaf trays of flowers, rice and incense appear on doorsteps and dashboards while the sky is still purple. By the time the rice terraces catch the sun, the village has already been busy for an hour.
Join it. A walk through Tegallalang at six is a different landscape from the same terraces at ten — cooler, quieter, and yours.
Then do less
The midday heat in Ubud is a suggestion, not a punishment. Take it. A pool, a book, a long lunch of jackfruit curry. The island rewards people who move with it rather than against it.
